Who Likes Free Stuff?

After two days of hard work designing, testing and fixing, I am pleased to announce one of those changes to Asnio I was talking about. For the first time ever, I’m releasing stuff for free on a blog.

It’s important to release things for free every once in a while to build your blog. But I think I’ll just save blogging talk for another blog.

What I have to offer you

So far as part of my freebies list, I have included the footer modification you see here on Asnio, and the archives modification I use at my other blog, Blogussion.

It’s a nice little start, and I will try to add some new stuff in there every once in a while. If you do choose to download anything and need help with it, feel free to go to my contact page and send me an email and I will help you the best I can with anything I throw in there.

Check ‘em out.

Cool Alex. I can’t wait to start using your footer. However, when I installed the code into the custom php this error came up: Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING in /home3/thecomq3/public_html/webjourney/wp-content/themes/thesis/custom/custom_functions.php on line 2

Do you know what cause it?

Thanks

Have you wrapped the code around in PHP tags? I excluded that in the download because most people have them already. Let me know!

What do you mean by that? I can’t really say since i’m not familiar with PHP.

Alex–

I ain’t going to lie man. I was waiting for you to get back from vacation so you could share some of your Thesis tricks. Can’t wait to try it out the new footer. Just out of curiosity, have you tested it out on multiple browsers? Reason I ask is that I currently have a footer that works on everything except Chrome (of course, right?). I didn’t even know (since I don’t use it) until somebody told me.

Thanks Jeff! Well, tomorrow is Thursday, which means it’s time for Thesis Thursday. Let’s see what I come up with tomorrow!

I have tested it multiple times in IE, FF, Safari and Opera. You should be good! But, if for some reason something is up — let me know!

Thanks Alex! One more quick question. I have added your post footer on my blog. Initially, I just added the author box with pic. I tried to add just the subscribe box the other night and for some reason when I added it to the custom file, it kicked all my sidebar content below the post. I deleted all the custom.css related to the box and that didn’t do it. It wasn’t until I deleted the subscribe box code that it went back to normal. Any thoughts?

I’m not sure if this is much of an issue (or if this will change anything), but in your author box:

If you want to learn more about financial planning please subscribe to Good Financial Cents RSS feed or via email to receive all the latest articles!

Your paragraph tag closes as < p/>.

If possible, can you try it again? Make sure to post the subscribe column directly after the closing < /div> tag for the postauthor class. If it messes up again, could you grab a quick screenshot and let me see ?

Thanks Jeff.

Just added it. Same result. I’ll leave it for a bit so you can see it. Don’t get alot of traffic right now anyway :)

I see it now!

rightcol” isn’t closed, the DIV is open and it is messing up the whole page.

Just add a < /div> (remove the space) right after the closing div for your subscribe box.

One thing that may or not be important, but I see two instances of id=“subscribe” which can lead to problems if there are two differently styled #subscribe ID’s in the CSS. While you’re closing up the tag, you may want to edit the ID of your subscribe box, just to play it safe for later. ;)

Let me know!

You the man! Thanks for your wonderful expertise ;-)

FYI, am I missing something, but didn’t I just copy and paste the code directly from Blogussion? Just didn’t know if anybody else would have any issues, too.

Thanks again, you rock!

Glad it’s fixed Jeff!

Right after I saw that in your source code I went over and checked, and you must have stopped copying one line too short because it was closed in the source. But you’re the first one to come to me with that problem.

Good luck, and if you have any other problems with my stuff don’t be afraid to stop by again. :)

Alex, never mind. Just realized that you have another after the second custom box. Totally missed it. Woops.…… And that is why I’m not a coder :)

Thanks for the freebies. I just got hold of the Thesis theme (I didn’t buy it, I just won it at a contest, otherwise I would have followed your affiliate link..lol) and I’m looking for ways to customize the theme. Your freebies are definitely useful for that purpose.

I have absolutely no idea on how to completely customize Thesis just like what you did on this site and on Blogussion. Grr… I have to do a lot of research on this.

Great stuff Alex. If we pay the $5 can we freely edit layout etc?

Also what do you charge for custom design per hour?

Thanks
Dave

The $5 is just fir the copyright, I don’t really care what you do with it as long as you don’t remove my link. :)

I totally agree. Free stuff will drive more traffic to your blog. I also use the “ethical bribe”, which is free stuff as an incentive for people to join my mailing list.
